The Women's Center believes passionately in the value of strong, long-term and short-term employment programs that help people get into the labor market, build skills, earn income, advance in the labor market and be financially self-sufficient.

There are three main Employment programs:

Jobs Now!


A two-week group-training program that features individual assessment, job targeting, job search training, and job placement assistance, designed to help people find the best possible job in the shortest possible time:

  • Strengthening Family Services

    An intensive job readiness and placement service for welfare families who want better futures:

  • Staff assistance in planning and problem solving
  • Development of life and work management skills
  • Job placement assistance
  • Assessment of skills and career interests
  • Individualized job search assistance and placement
  • Referrals for barrier removal (education, child care, transportation, reading improvement, etc)

    Participants must pre-qualify with Department of Human Services or the Workforce Center.

    This program is provided in partnership with six Workforce Centers in Tarrant County:

  • The Eastside Workforce Center in Fort Worth
  • Resource Connection Workforce Center in Fort Worth
  • Northside Workforce Center
  • Westside Workforce Center

  • Individual Employment Assistance

    This job search service is primarily for the unemployed and under-employed, who cannot participate in JOBS NOW! training classes. Clients must be referred by a Women's Center staff person.

  • Statistics

    • Experts link chronic unemployment to hunger, homelessness, family violence, drug abuse and crime including drug sales and gang activity.
    • Studies show that a mother's reading level is the best predictor of her children's success in school.
    • 70% of part-time workers are women. Further, over one million women earn wages below the Federal minimum wage *
    • In female-headed households, the median family income was over 40% LESS than male-headed (with no wife present) household median income.*
    • In 2,000, full-day child care costs range from $4,000 to $10,000 per year—at least as much as college tuition.*
    • In Texas, 35.6% of working families must get by on income that is less than 200% of the Federal Poverty line, compared to 27.8% of the United States at large.**
    • 28% of Texas jobs are in occupations that pay below the poverty level.**
    • In Texas, 23.4% of workers aged 18 to 64 do not have health insurance. The national figure is 16.2%.**
    • In Texas 69% of unemployed workers did not receive unemployment insurance benefits compared to 57% nationally.**
